Redeem my Pet
We understand that discovering your pet is at the Animal Shelter can be upsetting, but hopefully a relief as well. Now that you know your pet is safe, lets walk through the steps of getting your animal home.
You will need to bring the following items with you to redeem your pet.
- A valid driver's license or photo ID
- You will need to pay all fees by cash, check by a local bank, or a credit/debit card.
- Your pets current rabies vaccination certificate
- Proof of ownership such as photos or veterinary records.
Redemption fees
The best way to determine the cost of redemption is to call our Admissions Clerks at 907-459-1451.
They calculate the fees based on:
- the standard impound fee
- history of prior impounds
- number of days at the shelter
- rabies vaccination status
- microchip needs
The fee schedule may help you understand how the fees are calculated.
Stray wait
Stray animals that are impounded without identification will be held for 72 hours, and then if not redeemed, will default to property of the Borough. Every effort will be made to locate an owner. If an owner is identified before the 72 hours is up, the stray time will be extended to 120 hours from the time of impound, but will default to Borough property if the animal isn't redeemed.
Stray animals that are impounded with identification will be held for 120 hours, and if not redeemed, will default into property of the Borough. Every effort will be made to locate an owner.
Once the animal has defaulted into Borough property, Animal Control immediately evaluates and prepares the animal for the adoption program.
